Salut Kitchen Bar is a wine bar/restaurant located in Tempe, Arizona known for its blend of American cuisine and Mediterranean fare. When you enter Salut, you are brought into another world of twinkling lights, high energy, and a dog friendly patio that takes ownership of most of the eatery. It’s open seating, but reservations can be made. Salut does an excellent job of taking you away from the busy city right outside, and makes you feel as if you’ve entered a dinner party set to the tune of the latest hits and laughter. The environment is both casual and fun all at once. Despite the reputation of the high quality cuisine, Salut is not stuffy or elitist. It’s a place you can kick back at with a glass of wine in one hand and pita bread in the other.

For cocktails, you have your choice of well known beers as well as some local brews, wines from around the world, and very unique cocktails such as the Billion Dollar Apple (Crown Royal Green Apple, Cognac, Sweet Vermouth, Grenadine, Lemon Juice and Cranberry Juice) or the Pumpkin Spiced Old Fashion (Pumpkin Spiced Whiskey, Grand Marnier, Maple Syrup and Angostura Bitters).
The Lunch and Dinner menu at Salut has a generous array of appetizers and main courses. Here you’ll find a fair selection of hummus plates, various bruschetta concoctions, salads, sandwiches, burgers and pasta. Our party started off our meal with the Hummus Platter, which offers Salut’s “Mama’s Hummus”, Sriracha Hummus, Pita Bread, Cucumber, Mediterranean Olives, EVOO, Tzatziki, and Pickled Veggies. The Sriracha Hummus in particular was a hit between us and we wish we had more! This appetizer is perfect for a party of two or three at most.
For our meal we enjoyed the Applewood Grilled Chicken Sandwich which comes with applewood bacon, avocado, provolone cheese, mixed greens, vine ripe tomato, and honey mustard aioli on a brioche bun. Undoubtedly this is one of the best grilled chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had, period, even though I only had one bite. The applewood bacon complements the grilled chicken so well and the honey mustard aioli is the cherry on top. We also had the Pesto Alfredo pasta which includes fettuccine pasta, pesto, sundried tomato, EVOO, shaved parmesan, and comes with toasted noble bread on the side. I knew I wanted this pasta dish after seeing a photo of it online and I was not disappointed. The pesto was fresh and not sour like cheap pesto can be. The portion size for the price was completely fair as I was too full to clean the plate (but happily so!).
For dessert you have your choice of bread pudding, a brownie skillet, or s’mores…who can say no to that? Of course we had to have the s’mores, and we were so excited when we saw the display. It’s presented on a plate with your own miniature fire pit, fire pokers, marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate! When a menu offers you your own table-side s’more set up, you have to get it. It was just as fun and delicious as it sounds.
Salut Kitchen Bar is a place I’d highly recommend and plan to go to again. Despite the very busy and boisterous crowd, our service was top notch and our orders came out exactly as we requested. For those who work with service dogs or simply like to bring their dog along with them, the patio seating is perfect for lunch or dinner with your furry friend by your side. The menu isn’t exactly kid friendly (unless your child has a very adventurous palette), and the scene at night is definitely best for big parties or first dates. This is the perfect restaurant for finger food, and a glass of wine underneath the string lit patio. For those who want high quality food and cocktails without feeling pressured to dress up, Salut Kitchen Bar is a great choice.
For an overall review, I’d rate Salut Kitchen Bar a 4.8/5 for it’s high quality, delicious food, happy hour specials, fun atmosphere, and attentive service.
